Awards FAQs

You've got questions about the Recruiting Excellence Awards? We've got answers. Call (212) 671-1181 or email help@ere.net if this page doesn't help you find what you're looking for.

How is this award unique?
It's only for recruiting and related talent successes — not for benefits, training, and so on. It's chosen among an audience of the most progressive and interesting and dynamic recruiters (truly some of the most forward-thinking recruiting leaders in the business).
How do I apply for the awards?
The form is online and can be found here.
Can I enter multiple categories?
Yes, three.
What is the Lifetime Achievement Award?
This is for a corporate (or government/non-profit) recruiting leader honored for a lifetime, not one year, of service. There aren't applications for it, but if you have someone you think is deserving, let us (email todd@ere.net) know and we'll bring it to the judges.
The Award for Lifetime Achievement will be given each year to the entry, if any, that judges consider most worthy of the name. Other entries may receive an Award of Excellence or Certificate of Merit based on judges' assessments. Criteria for evaluating application for the Award are as follows. Documented evidence that the submitted nominee:

• Has worked consistently and steadfastly to assure and/or to improve the Field of Recruitment and/or Talent Management or research in the field of Recruitment and/or Talent Management over a continuous period of at least 10 years
• Has made one or more outstanding contributions, or a series of significant contributions, to advance, to promote, or to assure, and/or improve, the field of recruitment and/or talent management.
• Has worked a minimum of 10 years in corporate or government/non-profit recruiting.
• Whose work has had a demonstrable impact on advancing, and/or promoting the field of recruitment, and/or has had far-reaching influence on recruitment and/or talent management.
• Has lead or inspired the advancement of recruitment and/or talent management by example.
Note: The nominee must be alive at the time of application, but need not be currently active professionally. Self-nomination and nomination by someone other than the nominee are both acceptable.
What is the deadline for awards applications?
All 2008 entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, on January 9, 2009. Entries received after that date will not be accepted. You will be notified when we receive your entry.
I'm a vendor who sells products and services to recruiters, such as Manpower or Korn/Ferry. Can I apply?

Only submissions from recruiting departments or other internal corporate departments, applying for their own companies, will be accepted and evaluated.

If you're a CEO, or a human resources department, or a business unit, or some other department applying for your company's success in talent acquisition and talent management, that's no problem. But if you are a vendor applying for your efforts selling a product or service, this isn't the best venue for you.

I'm not a recruiter. I'm a CFO, a CEO, a General Manager, an owner, a VP of HR, etc. Can I apply?
Yes, no problem. Submissions from recruiting departments or other internal corporate departments, applying for their own companies, will be accepted and evaluated. If you're a CEO, or a human resources department, or a business unit, or some other department applying for your company's success in talent acquisition and talent management, that's no problem.
Will I get exposure for winning?
In a nutshell, yes! In the ERE Daily email newsletter and in the Journal of Corporate Recruiting Leadership. You'll be on a panel at the ERE Expo Spring 2008 the morning after the award. ERE sends a press release out on the wires announcing the winners, and your firm can send a separate release to local media in your area. There will be a lot of opportunities to publicize your success.
What if there is information I want to provide for the application but I want this specific piece of information or data to not be publicized?
If there's a statistic or projection you'd like to keep confidential, no problem. Let us know. We will not release this information.
Are there finalists? Or just winners?
ERE usually names finalists. The winners are announced in March. The finalists are announced before then. There have been some excellent finalists in the past who have gotten some good exposure for being finalists, even though they didn't win.
I'm not sure what category to enter in.
Shoot an email over to todd@ere.net. We can probably help you decide. You cannot enter two categories with the same application. You can enter two categories for two totally different applications.
I'd like to hear more about some past winners.

There are a lot of places to find this information. If you're a subscriber to the Journal of Corporate Recruiting Leadership, check out your past issues to see a lot of articles by and about winners (such as the June 2007 articles about employee-referral-programs by Tenet and Fair Isaac; the July 2007 interview about workforce planning with HealthEast; the May 2006 article about recruiting innovation by Recruiter of the Year Dan Hilbert of Valero, and the May 2006 article about college recruiting by Jennifer Warne of Towers Perrin).

Also, check out the brief past winners feature on this website. And read more about some of their best practices.

Many winners appear at future ERE events -- a good example being Starbucks, a 2007 winner for the best career website, and its October 2007 presentation at ERE's conference in Washington, D.C.

View a video from the Spring 2008 conference, with some of the winners. It's at http://www.ereexpoblog.com/video/ ( scroll down to "Learn From the ERE Recruiting Excellence Awards Winners." )

I'd like to attend the awards event.
